VERSE ONE

I spent twelve hours of my day wishing it away,
Waiting for the day when I get my pay,
Gives me hope keeps my rage at bay,
But the pain in my back’s driving me insane,
A crime, spending all my time waiting for nine.
O’clock, tick tock so slow that it might stop,
And I’ve been here everyday so I might drop,
Things in my life I want to buy,
Like status and respect,
That’ll make me smile,
So I while my time away down the drain,
Then complain when it’s gone but it’s me to blame,
Cos I’m more concerned with a raise or fame,
All the days the same lost the ways I’ve came,
The weekends a short crack in the black then I’m back,
On the train getting crushed all the way,
Then walk with the zombies dressed in grey,
To the evil residence where I feel dismay,
All work, no play I got to break free,
It’s not for me I can see,
But there’s red letters on my doorstep that strongly disagree,
Work all week just to live but I’m not living,
I’m giving, all my wealth away,
Get my pay slip go to pay my rent,
And find I’ve been jacked by the government

HOOK

It’s all about the money, it’s all about the cash,
See time is money but my time has passed,
Time is money but money ain’t time,
I’m getting screwed over somewhere down the line,

Time, Time, Money, Money,
Time, Time, Nah this ain’t funny
Time, Time, Money, Money,
Time, Time, Nah this ain’t funny

VERSE TWO

They say it’s fine,
As defined by society,
I have a life purpose lack originality,
Work hard, work hard, work hard, rest,
And don’t stop till you get pains in your chest,
I’m confused and distressed I’m depressed from the mess,
And if I get a job then I’m viewed as the best,
They say that I should feel proud but I don’t,
I can sneer at the unemployed crowd but I won’t,
More money brings more ways to spend it,
Some are so lost that they actually befriend it,
Think it’s all there is they work to make more,
What’s next on my list of accepted life chores,
Get a house, wife, kids, may be have four,
I’m always at work so forget what they’re called,
Yeah I’m a go getter,
With a vendetta,
Cos I’m trapped in a job when there’s much better.

HOOK

It’s all about the money, it’s all about the cash,
See time is money but my time has passed,
Time is money but money ain’t time,
I’m getting screwed over somewhere down the line,

Time, Time, Money, Money,
Time, Time, Nah this ain’t funny
Time, Time, Money, Money,
Time, Time, Nah this ain’t funny

VERSE THREE

Many years pass and I’ve come to accept,
That my much better dreams are too much to expect,
They said I was wrong for wanting to try,
I should just stay at work, but no-one said why,
So I sigh,
Do what I must to survive,
Then soon, I get a raise, more pay arrives,
Priorities switch like the card, it’s funny,
I’ll have a life, soon as I’ve made more money,
After work go in my brand new ride,
With my brand new shoes made from crocodile hide,
To the same old clubs, check the same old heads,
And get the same girls in my brand new bed,
My wife said that I didn’t work enough,
Now I clock, figures and I work too much,
But life’s too tough without enough funds,
And I dunno what I’d do if my work was all gone so I,
Take jobs home, make sure it’s plenty,
Gotta hide the fact that my life is so empty,
I wear jackets to match my grey eyes,
And I need more money but can’t recall why,
So I buy,
Time just won’t name it’s price,
I spend,
Just to make life twice as nice,
I work,
And try pretend we ain’t dying,
But the truth,
I didn’t live the life I’ve been buying.

*POINT OF INTEREST*

I wrote this whilst working a dead-end job trying to save enough money to get to China.

A lot of frustration so I put the pen on the page. It was especially difficult as I’d often work 12 hours a day, sitting down mostly in uncomfortable chairs.

The song is a story, progression, the more money the character gets the more unhappy he becomes.
